HURT 100 Trail Marking Crew Members Needed

Gang,

We are in dire need of some folks who would be willing to help mark trail on Friday morning. The plan is to have 5 separate teams to do the marking so that we can keep the marking segments short for each group. Please let me know ASAP by e mailing me at [email protected] if you are interested in helping out. We are looking at starting at 0730 and hope to be done by 1000.

Thank you for your help.

Jeff

Happy New Year and Weekend Running

Aloha Athletes,

Lots going on as we head into the last weekend of 2011. I hope you have met all of your goals and are already thinking about what you want to achieve in 2012. I know many of us have a very specific goal for the weekend of January 14th and 15th.

I have not heard of any specific training plans for the weekend though I know there will be a bunch of people trying to get some last minute panic training in. My suggestion, back it off a notch. With just two weeks before the big race, now is not the time to do something that might cause you to injure yourself. Work on any last minute gear and nutrition issues and start thinking a bit about drop bags and race strategy.

We got out for an early morning reverse Trek loop this morning and the trails have definitely dried out considerably over the last several days. Also Na Ala Hele has started working on certain parts of the course clearing and spraying. Let's hope they are able to spend a lot of time out there.

Post what you are doing in the comments below and hopefully we will see you out there.

Have a safe New Year's Eve and best year ever for 2012!

Aloha, Bob

Think No More: HURT Training is Now Real.

So all the indecision is out of this equation.  Either you is or you aint.   If you is then the concept of this Saturday's training is going to get really familiar.

Don't you Live Here?

Time:  6:00 AM

Place:  Nature Center

What:  Whatever that thing is in the picture.

Parking:  Lots of people like to park down by the Water Tank as it is safer.  Plenty cracked glass up in the official lot.

Enjoy!  And if you can not enjoy,  tough....so suffer through.  It is good training which ever way you get it done.

Aloha,  Mikem

MUTT Productions Presents: tHe mAuI cOAstaL rELAy

Now that PEACOCK is over with, time to start serious HURT training and here is a neighbor island adventure because you will get sick of running the Makiki/Tantalus trail system.

MAUI. ULTRA .TRAIL. TEAM .that is  Comprising oF JEFF Sanders . and PAUL HOPI.   Its going to be a low key trainning /sightseeing  tour

WHEN !   Event  is friday the 18th nov THROUGH  sun 20th nov.

WHAT ! - a 160mile  team adventure /event  to circumnavigate the entire island of MAUI, including the Kings trail, a fifteen mile section of remote rugged coastline starting at Lapereuse.

HOW!     Starting at Kanaha bch park and heading to beach road we will then run the back side to kapalua and on to Kam 1 where day one finishes rotating a runner every hour. This was run last year and was a lot of fun ,think adventure not race! .Day two  starts at Kam 1 where we left off aaaaaaaaaahhhh! No this was easy folks we were excited to see the kings Trail and day two was a blast. More of a fast paced hike/jog than running as terrain permitted. GOATS were spotted  in abundance .We finish up at seven pools and camp the night.

MORE FUN!!     Day three and the homeward leg takes us HANA RELAYS in reverse and a little extra  , seeing as though we start at 7 pools.   Last year was five hrs of running each on a two person team broke up of course hour by hour. So if you do the math on say  a four person team   you will be running  just over two 10ks a day or equal to one half marathon, totaly fun and totaly doable without any ultra DNA  in your legs . .SO  Lets get out there and run !.  More details will be provided to intrested partys such as start times ,safety issues ,more detailed logistics ect. by contacting   Paul Hopi  via email   pablohopwood @yahoo.com

Call For Volunteers: HURT 100

Runners, HURT ohana,

Putting on an event like the HURT 100 requires significant commitments from many of us, and we are grateful for the support we receive from the HURT ohana. Most recently, Jan McGriff and Julie Takishima have graciously agreed to be the Aid Station Captains at Paradise Park, and many of you have already volunteered to help at all three aid stations.

A major organizational challenge still lies ahead though, and we need your help.

At the last HURT 100 we successfully field-tested the concept of a safety and sweeper team. In its 2012 incarnation the mission of the HURT Patrol remains unchanged, namely to

1) assist in case of an emergency,
2) maintain course markings,
3) monitor the race.

Trail safety has become a pressing concern for the HURT 100 and similar events. Pacers provide some element of safety on the course but only for individual runners fortunate enough to find one. The HURT 100 needs a dedicated team committed to the support of the race and all its participants.

Members of this team will have to commit to at least 14 hours of service, must be familiar with the course, and need to be physically and mentally strong enough to be on standby or out on the course for a significant portion of the event, regardless of conditions.

We therefore

- call for volunteers for the HURT Patrol

- request that Aid Station Captains release volunteers who could be candidates for safety patrol service from prior commitments made to support HURT 100 aid stations

- appeal to all runners of the HURT 100 to forgo pacers and instead encourage their pacers to serve all runners by joining the patrol

The safety patrol provides vital race support, and its members' kokua will be recognized as a significant community service contribution by the HURT 100 Race Directors.

If the HURT Patrol is not for you and you would still like to volunteer, we have posted the contacts for those areas where volunteers are still needed. The listing is on the right hand side of this page.

Aloha,

Jeff
