A Big Mahalo To Freddy

FreddyH
Freddy on the course of 2015 Peacock Ultra 100k

A tough and grueling race such as the Peacock Challenge 55 requires an equally tough and determined race director in its helm. Freddy Halmes stepped up and took the lead in keeping this beastly event going. His hard work, persistence, and big heart made this race not only a reality but a success story.

In fact, he is already preparing for next year's race on top of organizing the Tiki Lounge aid station in Nuuanu for the HURT 100!

A big mahalo to Freddy for his tireless dedication to the HURT Ohana.

Javelina Jundred Bound

We at HURT Hawaii have a "Sister Race" arrangement with Aravaipa Running Club (Nick & Jamil Coury) where we choose a volunteer from each club and give them complimentary entries into HURT100 and Javelina Jundred including travel expenses. Aravaipa and HURT have very similar philosophies and are both Ohana oriented.

This year we were pleased to host Thomas O’Reilly from Arizona at HURT100 2016. He ran the race, stayed with one of our HURT family in Lanikai, and attended the Monday banquet.

2015-08-29-HURT-Tantalus-Triple-Trek-2885We’ve chosen Jeff Fong, a very treasured HURT volunteer and trail series race director, to attend Javelina Jundred which will take place October 29-30, 2016, in the McDowell Mountain Regional Park of Fountain Hills, Arizona.

Congratulations and good luck to you, Jeff! We can’t wait to hear your running adventure... in the desert... with coyotes... on halloween.

TTT Course Preview/Training Run This Saturday 8/15

SATURDAY, AUGUST 15, 2015 6:30AM

TRIPLE TREK COURSE PREVIEW/TRAINING

Aloha Athletes,

Many congratulations to all that ran last weekend’s Maunawili Out&Back 22-miler (aka the Run with the Pigs). As usual Marian and Neal Yasuda have outdone themselves in putting on another great event that’s kept us coming back year after year! It’s now time to keep those legs going for the final race of the H.U.R.T. trail series, the Tantalus Triple Trek (3T)!

This Saturday, JulieT will be leading the first preview/training run to go one full loop of the course. Remember there are will be only two weeks until race weekend. Please meet at the picnic and restroom area at the Maunalaha trail head (by the Hawaii Nature Center) at 6:30a.m. Bring a minimum of 32 oz of water as well as any nutrition (gels, energy bars, magic potions) you require, and most of all have fun. If you have not yet been on the Tantalus trails please make it a point to remain with Julie and the group, or be with someone who knows the course. Below is a map of the course. For those unfamiliar with the trails, please feel free to print a copy for reference along the training run. For the most part the race itself will consist of three loops of the course.

Everyone is welcome to join us for this training run – you don’t have to be registered for the Triple Trek race, and all levels of trail runners are encouraged to come! You don't have to run the full distance (or you can go longer), come and do as little or as much as you like.

Hope to see you on the trails!

Mahalo,

Julie, Fish, and Jeff (da 3T RDs)

From Cheryl:

''Merry Christmas my Hurt Family. We miss you all so much. We are settled into our new home in Bend and just live it here. We have for snow for Christmas. Off to a movie with Mom and ski tomorrow. Bless you all and may you have Peace and Joy in the coming year.''

THU or FRI long run?

Hurt Ohana, I am in town this week and planning to do a long run THU night(preferred) or FRI morn (early!) before my flight back. Peacocks would be great (long road to a Gordon's loop) or I can do tantalus or a waimanalo o/b.... Anyone interested just post here, or Facebook me. If no takers, I will likely do peacocks on Thursday night... Jake Hinz

Sat Sept 14th: Kailua Pot 'O' Gold for George for Birthday Party for Cheryl

Aloha athletes,

Apologies for the late notice but there is an important event happening Saturday, September 14 at 4:00 p.m. that we would like to share. The event is to celebrate the birthday of a friend to all and the mother of many....Cheryl!

As a special part of this celebration, we will be asking for donations to a Pot-o-Gold for our dear friend, George Ramos. Bring a chair, a dish to share, and donation, if you are able. We will have a grill and good cheer available for all!

For those of you that don't know George, he was diagnosed with Thymic cancer in 2012 and he's been fighting a hard battle since. He has been in critical condition this week at Queens and he and his family need our support now more than ever.

If you'd like to donate but can't come in person, you can write a check payable to "George Ramos", and send it to:  George Ramos, c/o Villiger Construction, 59-036 Kahauola St., Haleiwa, 96712.

For the party, look for us to be in this area - on the Kailua side of the beach near the pavilion starting at 4pm. If you have any questions please post them here. We hope to see everyone there.
