HURT Trail Series: Photos, Lost & Found

Photos from the Top of Tantalus race this past weekend can be seen by scrolling down the left side of this site or by clicking here. Clicking on each photo will make it larger. Thanks to Rex and Kat for these!

Also did you lose a pair of shoes on Saturday? A pair of shoes were found in the parking lot, Montrail size 12. Call Steve @ 479-6081 to claim them. He has even cleaned the mud from the shoes, so it might cost you a six-pack to get them back.

Results will be posted soon.

Mystery Run Postponed!

The 2006 version of the Mystery Run is officially postponed. As of the deadline (Sunday), we have 5 entrants. Last year we had 22!

  • Very sorry but it’s way too much work and too long a night for 5 people.
  • Perhaps training for HURT 6 has a big effect on entries, perhaps it’s just too hard.
  • We will save the essays and try another go in early Spring if the interest is there.
  • Many thanks to Mike Muench and Don Fallis, who spent a lot of time planning and many, many hours in the “back woods” plotting out a course.

Thanks for your understanding.

John

Are You Interested in the H.U.R.T. Mystery Run?

We are trying to gauge the interest for the 2005 H.U.R.T. Mystery Run scheduled for November 25, 2005.

This race was held for the first time in 2004 and for most participants, was a blast. The race started about 7:00 p.m. on a dark night at the Hawaii Nature Center. Mike Muench outwitted and out sprinted approximately 25 other participants with a winning time of about three and a half hours. I know some of us were out past 2:00 a.m.

Last years race required an essay by each participant describing their worthiness to participate. I've been told a decision has not been made regarding entrance requirements for this year...however, if the race takes place--worthiness probably will be an entrance requirement.

If you are seriously interested, and think you might possess what it takes to participate, please send an e-mail to [email protected] or call John at 566-6543 to let him know you are interested in the race.

Again, this is not the time to plead your case, he just wants to know how many people are interested in the race. Entrance requirements and other information will be made available later.

Aloha, Bob

Maunawili Out and Back: Congratulations to all the runners

Congratulations to all the runners from today's Maunawili out and back race. The trail was in excellent shape, very runnable, and fast.  The weather was hot and humid and I know several runners finished the race a bit dehydrated while others ran with cramps. Don't forget to pack those electrolytes and drink plenty of water during these hot summer days.

Thanks to Jeff Huff who put on quite a race with help from John Salmonson on a fun starting format based upon age. It made for an overall great event! Special thanks goes out to all those who helped out as well, especially Vanessa Huff and PJ Salmonson.

Watch for race results and photos to be posted later this week.

Aloha, Bob

Thanks for a Great Race!!

Thanks to all the runners for driving out to Kaena Point this past Saturday. We had 59+ runners at the Kaena Point Firecracker 10 mile race.

A special Mahalo goes out to Joel and Steph for putting an awesome aide station at the turnaround.

I hope to get the results and photo's posted soon.

Remember, the next H.U.R.T. Trail Series Race is August 13th, the Maunawili to Waimanalo 22 mile race. This race starts and finishes at the Pali Lookout.

Participants may choose to do it as a two-person relay, with each runner doing one of the 11 mile legs. Relay runners need to arrange their own transportation to or from Waimanalo.
