AWARDS

Rex Vlcek was commissioned once again to produce the awards for the top 3 men and women finishers.

"I drew upon the experience with my Mā‘ili ‘ohana this past summer, working in the loi, training and running experiences with my HURT ‘ohana, and the Mo’olelo of the Haloa brothers as an inspiration for conceptualizing the objects to be made for the awards." - Rex

Post-HURT 100 Shuffle and Picnic

Congratulations to all those who toed the line and powered through the mud this past weekend at the HURT 100! Join us for a shuffle up the Pali and then a potluck picnic this Saturday, January 26.

Recovery 6 mile Shuffle, 7:00am
Let’s meet near the Koolau Golf Club - First Presbyterian Church at 45-550 Kionaole Road. After parking in the designated lot for hikers, run back down the road a little till you get to the last turn where you came in (this is where we’ll be meeting). From there we’ll turn right and head up the old Pali Road all the way up to Pali Highway, where we can cross underneath the highway to meet up another trail which leads to Pali Lookout. From there we turn around and go back the same way to the church parking lot.

Pot-Luck Picnic, 10:00am, Hoomaluhia Botanical Gardens
If just coming to the picnic, after entering the Hoomaluhia Botanical Gardens, drive in through the gate and keep an eye out for the sign that says ‘Kahua Kukui’ - it is the Polynesian section of the park and the entrance is lined with Kukui trees and this is where we will be meeting. Here's a park map for reference:

Please bring a dish to share along with your best stories from the weekend!

See you Saturday!

Aloha Shirts, Volunteers Still Needed, and Book Of HURT

Alohashirt

Aloha Everyone,

One more week until HURT100! We are asking for a few kokua items.

  1. We need about 30 old aloha shirts to be donated to the cause, for our virgin HURT finishers. Shirts can have holes, be ugly, or whatever, just clean. Contact PJ by email using hurtpals[at]aol.com, or 808-366-2136.
  2. We have a few more volunteers slots at Pirates of Paradise and Tiki Lounge aid stations. Please spread the word if can.
  3. This is a good time to review the Book of HURT 2019. Don't wait until the last moment. Whether you are participating, crewing, or volunteering, the Book of HURT is a good resource for event rules, schedule, and general information. And if you are not able to find information you need in the book, please contact us.

See you all soon.

Thank you for your understanding and we will see you soon!

Trail Menehunes Strike Again

A BIG Mahalo from myself, Jeff Fong, John, and PJ to everybody who came out yesterday morning to do some serious trail maintenance work.

20181230 Trail Maintenance
(Many more volunteers who helped up are not in this photo)
We had an awesome group of people to work on a long overdue trail widening project. We split up in smaller groups to cover a wide area of Kalawahine and Manoa Cliff.  We also cut many fallen trees out of the way including the big tree on Nahuina. If you go out there for training or just for fun, I'm sure you will notice the transformation and appreciate the work of the volunteers.

Thank you for coming out for this weekend and the one a couple weeks ago! Many new faces this time and everybody put in a full effort to get the trails ready for HURT 2019. Thank you John & PJ for sending out another call for volunteers! I think we are good to go for the race!

Wishing everybody in our HURT OHANA and extended family a Happy New Year!

Freddy

Last Call For Trail Maintenance, 12/30

Aloha all!

Our final trail kokua day is on Sunday, 12/30. Please meet at 7:30am in the Nature Center picnic area (bathrooms). Be advised that parking is limited up along the access road between the residential homes and the Na Ala Hele (NAH) base yard. While NAH will provide tools for us to use, please feel free to bring your own personal favorite implement.

We will carpool up to the Kalawahine trail head to widen as well as to clear overgrown vegetation along select areas of the trail. The plan is to work until 12:30pm, returning to the Nature Center by 1pm.

Weather and trail conditions are variable this time of year so plan to wear appropriate clothing that will provide adequate comfort and protection. Pants, long sleeves & closed toe shoes are highly recommended. Please also bring your own supply of water to drink. At least 2 liters are recommended. Feel free to also bring some snacks.

If there are any questions, please contact us.

Mahalo for your support!
John, Freddy, and Jeff
